The 80/20 Principle for Productivity and Time Management

About the course

Most of your results come from a small part of your effort. Use the Pareto principle to see where your time goes, find the “vital few” that truly make a difference and build your week around them.

Course objective: Distinguish between being “busy” and being “productive” in a hectic work week, and consciously direct your time to the few tasks that produce most of the results.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the 80/20 principle, its origins and its limits.
  • Identify the vital few in your own work using an impact/effort matrix.
  • Reduce the trivial many by dropping, delegating, automating and batching tasks, and create your personal focus plan.

The course consists of 5 animated chapters, 5 interactive exercises and an 8-question assessment. The exercises at the end of each chapter reinforce what you have learned in real work situations.

Who this course is for

All white-collar employees who have to prioritize under a heavy workload, especially teams involved in several projects at once and manager candidates. No prerequisites; it can be opened to everyone in the organization.

Why it matters

Most productivity loss comes not from a lack of skills but from constantly divided attention. In organizations where heavy meeting loads, instant messaging and unclear priorities come together, an employee’s real focus time drops to just a few hours a day. These topics are used to build a shared language for how work gets done across the organization.

Frequently asked questions

Can we publish this course on our own system?

Yes. The course is delivered as SCORM-AICC-Video and uploads to any learning management system that supports these standards. There’s no need to change your existing infrastructure.

Can you adapt the content to our organization?

Catalog courses are off-the-shelf content. If you need a program built around your own scenarios, brand and processes, our Custom Content Design service has you covered.

How often is the course updated?

This course was last updated in 2026. Catalog content is reviewed regularly to reflect changes in regulations and practice.

How many users can it be licensed for?

Licensing depends on the number of users and the term. Tell us what you need and we’ll put together the right package.

Are these courses only for individuals, or do they also work at the team level?

Both. They can be assigned individually, but they have the greatest impact when assigned to the whole team at the same time, because topics such as priorities and meeting discipline only stick once they become shared rules.
